Martha was a wonderful friend of mine as a young man growing up in Walton, KY and I can recall some great memories of when we were in the band together and walking home after school. In the last 50-years, my life has taken me around the world and regrettably, I lost track of Martha until I was notified by a former WVHS friend of her death last night. I have thought about her serval times in the last 50-years and whenever I do, a smile comes to my face as those memories are happy ones of a carefree life that we shared as poor kids growing up in rural Boone County Kentucky. To the friends and family, I want you to know just how special Martha was to my brothers and me. She was a bright light whose glow left us far too early. If there is a meaning to this short story, it's that we should not wait to reconnect with old friends until "someday" comes along because someday may never come.
My deepest sympathy to her children, grandchildren, her husband and many, many friends who mourn with me today.
