I first remember Tom when I was in the first grade at Hebrew school. I was so impressed that Tom play center on his high school football team. It was a six man team that played other six man teams, no matter how many players their work I was so impressed that he was a football player.
I remember good night that June, my sister and Tom were married in the basement of our little house on Hebron-limaburg Road in Hebron.
I remember that June and Tom had a small apartment on Dixie Highway in Erlanger right above the Dixie club, I believe it is still there. It was the first night that I stayed all night with them, Tom was at work and was going to stop by Friches and bring home supper. I fell asleep on the couch, When Tom got home they tried to wake me telling me that Tom brought home some big boys. In a sleepy state I ask them what their names were, I didn’t get my big boy that night.
Tom, being very good at math helped me through my freshman and sophomore algebra classes, he had real patience with me, it was just hard for me to understand all the x’s and y’s.
Tom and Joon were members of the Florence Christian Church. Tom and I sang tenor in the church choir, believe it or not Tom was a real good singer.
When I was 17 years old Tom’s father died. Tom gave me my first car which was his father’s 1947 dodge. We called it old rusty, because it really was, but I could not have been more proud of that car if it had been a brand new Corvette.
One thing I will always remember about Tom is how he was always smiling. The last time I saw him he stopped by our house just after Christmas. We ate together and talked about some old times, and of course Tom was smiling the whole time.
To me he was Tom to my boys he was uncle Tom, and Tom will be missed by all of us.
Honored to be entrusted with the care and satisfaction of families since 1906
