I remember getting the call from her mother that her little Kara Bear was born. The love and rejoicing time that she was perfect. I could wait to see her. Bringing our kids together to meet and play just like her mother and I did in kg.
There was a reason Kara was born first. She was the little mother of the family. Kara had a purpose in life from day one. You will be the most beautiful angel

I am praying for all who knew and loved Kara. I met Kara when I was 21 and she was 20. We worked together at Cinergy in the call center. One of my first memories was that of Kara speaking to someone about how excited she was to go through the book of Romans. At the time, I was not submitted to the Lord and wasn't reading my Bible and I remember thinking that I wished I had that same excitement for the Bible. Kara was so sweet and so strong even as a young woman. I remember she always wore this Third Day sweatshirt and talked about going to their concert. She was so different than me. lol We worked the night shift together and she made us popcorn with chocolate in it and brought in old movies for us to watch together. She told me it was her family's tradition. She invited me to church and even though I only went once, years later I submitted my life to Christ and we ended up at the same church for many years. I will always remember Kara for her love for the Lord and the tremendous amount of joy she had. God used her in my life when we were at Cinergy and even though it took me another 6 years to fully submit to Christ, Kara stood out to me as someone God chose to plant seeds in my heart and a longing to be as strong, joyful, and excited about His Word as Kara was. I can't wait to see Kara again in Heaven some day. Her family and friends are in my prayers. And I know that all who knew Kara can find peace in knowing she is rejoicing in the presence of her Wonderful Savior.

"It’s your turn! If you can, please send me 4-7 needs, praises, and/or opportunities, any scripture you're praying, and 2-4 pictures if possible." This is how Kara would begin her emails! Every two or three months she would ask me to share prayer requests so people from Grace Fellowship Church could pray for the Areopagus Center! A couple of years ago when my father was very sick, she e-mailed me to encourage me and to tell me that she was praying for him. I have never met Kara in person, we only exchanged emails, but she was an example of faithfulness in the work that she was entrusted with, an example of perseverance and love for people. We have been blessed by Ben and Kara's friendship and generosity! It was an honor to work with Kara! 'Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Ben, we'll continue to pray for you and for your children!
But I trust in you, Oh Lord; I say, “You are my God.” Psalm 31:14

Kara has a special place in my heart. I've got to know her in Romania when she came with a youth group on a short mission trip about 20 years ago and kept in touch over the years with her and Ben. She was a person full of joy who showed God's love in so many ways to so many people! Together with Ben she was a devoted supporter of the work of Areopagus Center in Romania, a special friend to me and Alex, and a beloved servant of God shining His light through her serving in so many ways! Our prayers and love are with Ben and the children, Kara's extended family and Grace Fellowship Church family

Together with her beloved husband, Ben, Kara has been a very special supporter of the Areopagus ministry in Romania for over 20 years. In this way, she has made a significant contribution to the development of biblical counseling, Christian education, and care for the needy in our country. Her unique role in sharing our prayer requests with people from Grace Fellowship Church and other praying partners has been for us a constant reminder that we are not alone in our efforts for God’s kingdom. Kara will always have a very special place in our hearts and in the memory of our organization.

Kara led a book group on suffering through chronic health issues. She was a huge role model for me and others in our group of what it looks to walk with grace through physical suffering. God used her to pull me out of self pity pit and point me back to the blessings and contentment that can be mine regardless of circumstances because of Christ.. My life will forever be better because God blessed me with the opportunity to know, learn from, and be encouraged by Kara Hanks! I am so grateful!

Early on in knowing Kara I called her and asked her if it would be ok to host a youth group sleep over at her house. She told me she and her husband wouldn’t be home as they were staying at their friend’s house to watch their kids while one of the parents had surgery. I thought the answer at that point would be an obvious “no”. She then said “oh no, we’d love for you to use it!” Not very many people would let someone bring 10 middle school girls into their home without being there themselves to keep an eye on things. But that’s Kara, she valued youth ministry so much, and she shared her home and resources with a rare level of generosity.

Kara, I remember how she jumped in to organize our grieving group when Liz Wernz died. She was so quick to respond to a need, skilled at recognizing actions to take, and so capable of getting it done, smiling all the way.
Our hearts grieve with her family at their loss.
We celebrate that she has joy in the presence of Jesus.

I only met Kara a few times when visiting Trisha Deaton from Nashville. In those few encounters, Kara’s kindness, compassion, relatability and love for Jesus were all obvious. I remember this summer at a wedding shower that I “ crashed” she listened to my work delima with care l, concern and prayed a very timely prayer that impacted how I handled the situation. I am so very sorry for our loss here on earth and hold that sadness in tension with the joy that she is in Heaven with Jesus!
Blessings and prayers for all family and friends.

Kara, was the most sweet, loving, giving, beautiful person that you could possibly know or be acquainted with. Words can’t express the love she left for all who met her. She will be missed by us here, but she is joyfully sitting next to Jesus her Savior. With a broken heart, I pray for her family to be surrounded by His love. Kz her friend in Christ.
