Obituary of Brenda Putnam

Please share a memory of Brenda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brenda Putnam, 53, of Union, KY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Brenda’s greatest priority in life was always her family. She loved her husband Kendall, and her children Ben and Abby with a deep and unwavering devotion. She found joy in nurturing her family and creating lasting memories. In addition to her family, Brenda had a gift for helping anyone in need, always putting others before herself.

Born on October 27, 1971, in Johnson City, NY, Brenda touched many lives throughout her journey. She was an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America, where she made an enduring impact as the founding Scoutmaster of Troop 1702 in Union, KY. Her involvement with the Scouts was a natural extension of her caring nature, and she dedicated much of her life to mentoring young people and instilling in them the values of leadership, kindness, and service.

Brenda graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, with a B.A. in Chemistry and Education. She went on to teach high school science in Texas and Illinois, and later shared her passion for science as the volunteer coordinator at a hands-on science museum in Ithaca, NY. Most recently, she worked as a Buyer at Kroger and Replenishment Insights Manager for the Harvest Group.

A selfless volunteer, Brenda gave her time to her church, schools, and community, and built strong, lasting relationships with those she met. She always saw the good in people, and her genuine kindness touched everyone she encountered.

Brenda’s love of the outdoors and adventure was one of her defining characteristics. She enjoyed hiking, canoeing, camping, and was always seeking new experiences. Last summer, she went backpacking in New Mexico with the Scouts and was working toward becoming scuba certified for a dive trip in the Bahamas in 2025.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Kendall Putnam; children, Ben and Abby; father, Joseph (Kathy) Sever; brothers, Joe, Matt, and Kyle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Margaret "Peg" Wilson.

Brenda’s love for everyone and her selfless spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to inspire all of us who had the honor of calling her family and friend.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held Friday January 24th. A visitation will be held between 3 PM and 5 PM with a memorial service to immediately follow at 5 PM at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.

The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Brenda’s spirit of giving and the love she shared for others.

Brenda leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
